Dr. ir. Martijn Froeling is an Assistant Professor at UMC Utrecht in the Precision Imaging Group. He is a biomedical engineer who develops quantitative MRI methods for the mechanistic measurement of skeletal muscle in vivo. His work spans hardware, acquisition, processing, and clinical infrastructure, with a focus on making these methods robust, standardized, and usable by others.

Martijn did his PhD at Eindhoven University of Technology and Amsterdam UMC. There he established a diffusion tensor imaging processing framework for skeletal muscle. He develops and maintains QMRITools, an open-source toolbox for quantitative MRI analysis, and is building the Motion Study, a database of 160 healthy subjects with whole-leg quantitative MRI, force measurements, and lifestyle data.

Within BioMotive, his ambition is to link muscle architecture, dynamics, and metabolism in one framework, using MRI methods that capture muscle function under real physiological conditions rather than at rest.
